I have been building masonry heaters for over 20 years. The simple principles are the same. The materials differ. These projects pictured are built with brick, stone, stucco and or tile. A brief description accompanies each.

South Strafford Biofire
with large glass door and warming oven. Surrounded by asymmetrical round benches, a woodbox on either side, and containing small sculpture niches. Large tree tiles plastered into a smooth stucco finish.

Gove Hill
a small, bedroom heater built of waterstruck brick with large tree tile and plastered with color. One of four masonry stoves in this straw bale house.

Large granite heater with bakeoven. Woodboxes on either side, bluestone benches and hearth.

Hanover Biofire
A traditional Kachelofen built with hand made tile from Austria. This has a warming oven in the crown and benches on either side. A woodbox faces us with decorative tile, plaster and hand made tile base and top.

A small Rumford style fireplace made with red waterstruck brick and hand made tile from Tri Keenan tile works in Keene NH.

Three Mile Road
A tall Finnish Fireplace of waterstruck brick painted white. This heater is two feet taller than the conventional plan with wall as woodbox and granite hearth.

Tunbridge oven
Built of Corinthian granite, granite cobbles and bluestone. This has a round oven 44 inches across and an insulated door to retain heat for baking.
